Younica takes luxury materials and knits them into unique fashions that are contemporary and sophisticated.
Younica works together with artisans and small manufacturers in Peru to create high quality knitwear pieces that are one of a kind. Their pieces are made of the finest alpaca and baby alpaca wool, with beautifully crafted details adding personality to each piece.
Younica has a passion for quality and design. Younica turns pure materials into pure style.
Younica is about being yourself and bringing people together.
Younica knitwear collection is crafted from exquisite alpaca, one of the finest fibres in the world. A camelid originating from the heights of the Andes in South America, alpacas have been prized for their quality wool since pre-Incan times. The unique climate and diet of the Andean alpaca create a fine, silky coat. Alpacas require a lot of space and live at a high altitude. The extreme climate of the Andes have made them extremely resilient. Alpaca wool is strong, warm and luxurious, adjusting to your body temperature. Soft and silky to the touch, it is also hypoallergenic and durable. It exists in 22 naturally occurring colours. Baby alpaca is a rare type of highest quality alpaca wool which is extremely fine and soft.
Younica is about creating beauty together, from the first inspiration to the last stitch. An international collaboration, Younica fashions are designed in The Netherlands and made in Peru. Our design process starts in Amsterdam, where founder Saskia van Erven works together with designers to gather inspiration, try out looks and establish a vision for the collection.
Then Saskia crosses the Atlantic, travelling to Peru to test out materials and discuss the production process with our Peruvian team. The workshops of the knitters and weavers we work with are found in the shantytowns of bustling Lima and the highlands of Huaraz. We strive for a sustainable business model which empowers our Peruvian partners by building their skills and introducing them to the global market. Working closely together, we nurture each piece from swatch to end product, focusing on the smallest details.
Back in Europe, we join forces with a network of skilled colleagues – our photographer, stylist, graphic designer and copywriter – to create the brandbook and feel of the collection. The end product is finely crafted, original knitwear combining contemporary design with the finest natural materials. Inspired garments woven from the best of both worlds.
